Hey errrbody! I was inspired to start this blog after a lot of political debates going down on a lot of my friends facebooks and now Maddy's photo blog. So this is for you "Anonymous" maybe now you can get an answer why we like Obama and how he's gonna hook it up. For those who didnt get to see the anonymous bloggers question....here it is, please everyone respond, this is the place for it.

So awesome photos make him an awesome guy? How is he going to make this country better? Raising taxes? He is not the Messiah and he will not save us all from doom & gloom. I would like to know SPECIFICALLY why everyone is so obsessed with him. He is just a pop icon. Just like Che Gueverra. And Che just killed a bunch of people. Why is that cool?

So, I'm not a very political person, but I will gladly tell you why I am in support of Obama.
I have many reasons, but I'll just go into my number one reason, which is health care. Universal health care (or near universal, as we have to put it, because for some reason Americans are afraid of the word "universal") is the only way that this country will solve that crisis. Why are we so late on the draw here? Canada, Europe, and even countries like Cuba have already solved this dilemma. I would happily have my income taxed so that me and my family could have health care with no questions asked. I spent 6 months of my pregnancy trying to get health insurance. First of all, pregnancy is a "pre-existing condition" so you cannot begin to hope to get health insurance privately. My only hope was to apply for Medicaid. The first time we applied, we got denied because we made $300 too much money a month. We barely made anything. Just enough to pay our bills. So I had to switch to part time at my job so that my paychecks would be smaller so we could get accepted. The second time we applied we got denied again because of some miss communication with my paycheck stubs. We finally got accepted on the 3rd try. It was such a depressing process. I remember getting the first denial letter and just bawling. Because, what else was there to do? Medicaid was our only option. I was so mad because I was a tax paying citizen and I was asking for help and they told me I wasn't poor enough even though we were struggling and asking Joey's parents if we could not pay rent for a while. Okay, so I have started rambling, but seriously, I know this is a common problem in the U.S. if 40 million of us are uninsured. Joey just got a new job and his benefits are great...FOR HIM. It's like $10 out of each of his paychecks. Then if he wants to add Jude and I it's $600 dollars a month. That's absolutely outrageous for coverage that is so limited and has such a high deductible. I won't even go into the fact that my previous employer, AN INSURANCE COMPANY, didn't offer benefits because he employed 3 females and women are more expensive to insure.
Anyway, Obama gives me hope that perhaps by our next child we won't have to go through that huge mess. And if I hear the word "socialism" one more time I might scream. We've socialized our public school system and our mail system...and I'm thinking health care might be more important than postage. If that makes me a socialist, then I sure as hell am one.
As for Obama's "pop icon" image, I say it's about time. I think it's important to have the face of our nation be a positive reflection on our country. We have been the joke of the world for the last 8 years, and having someone who knows how to speak and has amazing charisma will do nothing but help our image. Yes, image is important when you are representing an entire nation.
Hope is an overused word, but I have a lot of it right now.
...and how ignorant can you be to assume that Obama's supporters think that he is the Messiah?! are you out of your mind?
I agree with Rayna about the pop icon thing, I was just talking about it the other day with Kirsten and we were saying its so cool that there is going to be a president in a few months that so many people are excited about, how awesome is that, I think that will bring a lot of hope to the United States and help us have more unity instead of division. The first time I became intrigued by Obama was in April I think, I saw a rally on TV that he did and talked about how we need to forget about party and just unite as citizens of this country and fix our problems.
George Washington said that partys suck:
"I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State [nation], with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.
This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form [a government by the people], it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.
George Washington said partys are the worst, I didnt find that out until like 2 weeks ago, but I had thought about how we were divided as a nation and I thought it was cool that Obama thought so too, and apparently so did G Washington.
Also yes healthcare is a huge deal, and if you dont want to be a part of it then you dont have to, and if you would like to but like to keep your doctor you can do that too. Very communist sounding right?
As for Che, he did kill people, not cool. He was a powerful leader. He was a doctor and gave it up because he was inspired by all the poor people he saw in Latin America. I dont think any comparison can be made between the two. Che wanted to bring equality because of the differences he saw because of capitalism and what not. Socialism always seems good to people when they are being oppressed for so long, so i cant blame Che, just the way he went about it.
Obama just wants to help people out, and build the middle class. The tax thing is just reversing what was done in the 90s for people making over 250,000! why is everyone freaking out? That is not socialism, thats life, and a way to help the economy, among his other plans...
hear hear! Rayna - so true about health care. I too am sick of people throwing around the word socialism. If socialism means everyone gets to have health care well then I suppose I am a socialist.
Nick - I have always thought that having two separate parties divides us as well. The thing is, sometimes people will just vote republican or democrat, and not really look at the person they're voting for, they just choose a party and stick with that. Personally, I don't call myself republican or democrat because with each election, I will always look at the person and their policies, not their specific party, to do so is foolish and I think it's the reason we've had to deal with Bush so long.
I think the great thing about Obama is that the people really have a lot of faith in him. When Bush was elected, nobody was really overly excited about the fact. Even people that voted for Bush weren't satisfied, just relieved they didn't have to have the other running mate in office. He was the lesser of two evils. Obama is NOT the lesser of two evils in this case, even those that didn't vote for Obama, I think are able to see that he genuinely cares about the people, and he wants to make changes. I want to be able to trust my government, like everyone else. With Obama, I think that is possible.
One last thing in regards to our friend anonymous. It really bothers me when people use that sort of reasoning to come to conclusions that arn't true and sometimes completely ridiculous. anonymous is basically saying:
Obama is a pop icon
Che is a pop icon
Che killed a bunch of people
...obama and che are alike?
Obama wants to kill people?
It doesn't make a lot of sense. People do that all the time in politics. Hitler wanted major changes, Obama wants major changes, Obama is just like Hitler! I don't mind people having problems with Obama's policies, but it really bothers me when people make conclusions based on vague connections.
I can't wait to see what kind of changes happen over the next for years, I really hope Obama pulls through and we can begin again to be a nation that people respect.
The most frustrating thing about being an Obama supporter, is that many people assume you must not know what he stands for. That somehow I have based my vote on the fact that will.i.am wrote a song about him.
WHO IS BARACK OBAMA ANYWAY?
I think it's clear who has looked at the issues. If anonymous would have been watching the debates/looked into Obama past a magazine cover, he would know that he is about to get a tax break, unless anonymous is making over $200,000 annually.
Please do find out what Obama wants to do for you. The internet has made it so easy, I think the debates are still online.
Most importantly look at the way he treats his family, he publicly told the media to back down when they started attacking his wife. I will gladly stand behind a man with that much character any day.
I dont know Seth, I hear a girls voice when I read Anonymous' comment...hmmmm but now that I think about it, I can hear it in a man's voice too.
I want him or her to make more "anonymous" comments though. Really... who could it be? I dont want to know. But tell me if you find out, no dont. I dont want to know.
